APHA premieres a new world-class show in Fort Worth |
|
FORT WORTH, TEXAS—From November 6–15, 2008, the 85-acre Will Rogers Memorial Center
complex in Fort Worth, Texas, will be home to the American Paint Horse Association’s
(APHA) newest world-class
specialty show. The inaugural APHA Fall Championship Show will feature world title
classes for weanling and yearling halter, yearling longe line and 2-year-old performance
horses. It will also showcase breeders futurities, new added-money and jackpot classes,
slot classes and select Challenge and Sweepstakes classes.
On the move
The new show is formatted to allow a longer period of time for young horses to mature
before competing on a world-class level, and so there are several classes moving
from the World Championship Show, held mid-summer, to the Fall Championship Show.
Classes moving include Open and Amateur World Championship classes for weanling
halter horses, yearling halter and performance horses, 2-year-old performance horses
and all 3-year-old Challenge classes.
In addition to competition, the new show will also include a select championship
sale, which will be sponsored by Markel Insurance Company. The auction will replace the World Showcase Sale that was held during the World
Show in previous years.
Slot Classes
Want even more added cash? Then, with an estimated $600,000 total payout,
the slot classes offered at the Fall Show are for you. Slot classes are limited-entry
events inwhich contestants reserve their space in advance. There are several slot
classes scheduled, including returning favorites and several new ones that will
debut at this event.
Renewals for pre-existing slots must be made by March 15, 2008. Current owners may
also take advantage of the option to purchase up to two additional slots in pre-existing
slot classes. These classes include:
· Yearling Longe Line Slot – estimated $45,000 payout
· Yearling Mares Slot – estimated $75,000 payout
· Yearling Stallions Slot (split) – estimated $75,000 payout
· Yearling Geldings Slot – estimated $75,000 payout
· 3 & 4-Year-Old Novice Horse Western Pleasure Slot – estimated $75,000 payout
· 3 & 4-Year-Old Novice Horse Hunter Under Saddle Slot – estimated $75,000 payout
Current slot owners will also have the first option to purchase slots
in the new classes, which include:
· Weanling Mares Slot – estimated $45,000 payout
· Weanling Stallions & Geldings Slot – estimated $45,000 payout
· 2-Year-Old Novice Horse Western Pleasure Slot – estimated $45,000 payout
· 2-Year-Old Novice Horse Hunter Under Saddle Slot – estimated $45,000 payout
All slot classes will be held prior to any corresponding World Championship classes
during the show and a maximum of 30 slots per class will be available for both returning
and new slots. If demand exceeds supply, new slot applications will be drawn lottery
style. All renewals are guaranteed, and after receiving all previous slot
owner’s renewals and new purchases, the remaining available slots in all classes
will be open to APHA’s membership until April 15, 2008.
Applications are available on-line at apha.com/showing. Or, pick up a print copy
through the APHA office and in the Paint Horse Journal.
