2008 Slot Classes Criteria
- Hosted at the
APHA Fall Championship Show in
Fort Worth, TX
–
November 6-15, 2008
- All slot classes
will be held prior to their corresponding World Championship class(es) during this
show
- Renew – Slots
must be renewed by March 15 (payment must be received in the
APHA office, not postmarked)
- Slots must
be renewed in 2008 or ownership rights will be forfeited
- New Slots
- Current slot
owners have the first option to purchase slots in the new 2008 slot classes
- After receiving
previous slot owner renewals and new purchases, remaining available slots in all
classes will be open to membership until August 1
- A maximum of
30 slots per class will be available. If demand exceeds supply, new
slot applications
will be drawn lottery style. All renewals are guaranteed.

Ownership
-
The owner on the slot entry form is
the owner of the slot, regardless of the horse shown. The owner must have an APHA
membership. The current slot owner has the first right of refusal of that slot for
the life of the class or until they give up the right. There is a limit of two slots
per class per each Immediate Family Unit (see the APHA Rule Book,
Rule SC
-160.N. for a definition).

Sales & Leases
-
A sale must be submitted in writing
to APHA and may be done at any time. Owner forfeits rights of ownership including
their name on the slot, future rights of refusal and payment of earnings.

A lease is not recognized by APHA;
this agreement is between the
lessor and lessee. The owner maintains ownership rights
to the slot. The lessee is not recognized other than as the horse owner. All earnings
are paid to the slot owner.
- The following
ten classes will be offered at the designated fees:
- Weanling Stallions
and Geldings - $1500
- Weanling Mares
- $1500
- Yearling Stallions
- $2500
- Yearling Geldings
- $2500
- Yearling Mares
- $2500
- Yearling Longe
Line - $1500
- Two-Year-Old
Novice Horse Western Pleasure - $1500
- Two-Year-Old
Novice Horse Hunter Under Saddle - $1500
- Three- and
Four-Year-Old Novice Horse Western Pleasure - $2500
- Three- and
Four-Year-Old Novice Horse Hunter Under Saddle - $2500
- Horse and Exhibitor
Nominations, along with a $150 Administrative Fee per slot will be due by
August 1, 2008
- Judges – A separate
set of slot class judges from the current APHA-approved list will be hired for the
show. Each slot owner will be given the opportunity to nominate five judges per
discipline for the slot classes.
- Exhibitors
- Eligibility: Exhibitors are ineligible to show
if they meet any of the following criteria as of the beginning of the show:
- Have earned
an APHA World Champion, Reserve World Champion, Paint Vegas Champion, Reserve Paint
Vegas Champion (Paint Vegas Limited titles not included), Challenge Champion or
Reserve Challenge Champion title in the past two years in the discipline in which
they are exhibiting a slot horse
- Earned an AQHA
World or Reserve World Champion title once in the past five years
- Note: Amateur
exhibitors should be aware of the possibility of compromising future amateur status
by competing with horses not owned by themselves or their family. See AM-020 of
the APHA Rule Book for ownership requirements.
- Exhibitor substitutions
may be made until October 31 with a $250 fee
- Horses
- Horse substitutions
are only allowable upon death of the horse.
- Eligibility: Regular-Registry Paint horses only. See
individual classes for further details.

Weanling Stallions and Geldings

No eligibility restrictions.

Weanling Mares

No eligibility restrictions.

Yearling Stallions
-
The horse has never earned more than
25 combined points or a World, Reserve World, World Show, or Reserve World Show
Champion title from any equine breed registry or association by the class date.

Yearling Geldings

The horse has never earned more than
25 combined points or a World, Reserve World, World Show, or Reserve World Show
Champion title from any equine breed registry or association by the class date.

Yearling Mares
-
The horse has never earned more than
25 combined points or a World, Reserve World, World Show, or Reserve World Show
Champion title from any equine breed registry or association by the class date.

Yearling Longe Line

The horse has not earned more than
25 combined points from any equine breed registry or association by the class date.

Two-Year-Old
Novice Horse Western Pleasure

The horse
has never earned any of the following in Western pleasure competition in any equine breed registry or association prior to the date of the slot class:

World, Reserve World, World Show,
Reserve World Show
Champion title
-
More than 25 combined points
-
More than $2500 in any monetary awards

Two-Year-Old
Novice Horse Hunter Under Saddle

The horse
has never earned any of the following in hunter under saddle
competition in any equine breed registry
or association
prior to
the date of the slot class:
